FOLIE development - folies to buildings

Proposal //

Create an unconventional and provocative design to implement the wider urban context of Brisbane city, whilst focusing on the manifests of the HSW context.

Develop an understanding of the folie concept, in which the building is subjected to its retrospect, new forms, and elemental qualities whilst still pertaining the parameters of the folie context.

Introduce residential architecture (studio apartments), and commercial activities, such as a restaurant, and cultural activities featuring external gallery spaces, and multiple observations/ views.

Specificity of “With and Around Icon” reflects the contextual processors of the building, HSW context, and ultimately, Brisbane city.

Building concepts & Exemplars

Conceptual and graphical details -
Exemplars of glass

This has been a crucial element of the concept design, specifically because of the reiteration of splintered glass defining a retrospect of Brisbane city culture. Ultimately, the play of metaphors highlighting a literal reflection of Howard Smith Wharves context onto the conceptual processors of Brisbane city, are emphasised with this approach to materials. As physical material, it is of minimal value, but its reflective context mediates the decay of the site.

Exemplars of cliff designs

A simple elaboration of the cliff design - emphasising the continuity of the contextual site.
